After Algeria’s new fiasco at CAN 2024, Riyad Mahrez is reportedly wondering about his future at international level.

Nothing is going well for Algeria. Since their coronation at CAN 2019, the Fennecs have been eliminated from the group stage in 202, missed qualification for the 2022 World Cup and were again prematurely eliminated from CAN 2024, without having won a single match. A discomfiture which caused the dismissal of coach Djamel Belamdi.

Main target of criticism, Riyad Mahrez suggested after the defeat against Mauritania (1-0) that he was going to take the time to think about his international future. According to Nabil Djellit, the Al-Ahli striker is wondering. The identity of the future coach “will weigh heavily in the course of events”, adds the journalist from the L’Equipe channel.

“My head is upside down”

“We are the ones responsible, me first, and I put everyone in it”Mahrez declared after the elimination of Algeria, and added: “We have not been up to par over the last 2-3 years and we are paying for it. We are disappointed and very sad for the Algerian supporters and our families, because it is for the people that we play. We are very touched and we hope that things will bounce back with a new coach. I don’t know what my goal will be, my head is upside down. It’s not easy to come out of such a failure. »
