The Adentan Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Ebenezer Doku, has urged Care givers to adopt innovative strategies to make the school environment attractive to the children entrusted in their care.
He said as children in their formative and cognitive stages, the only thing needed from the care givers was activities that would entice the child to always come to school.
The MCE made the call at the inauguration of the Executives of the Adentan Day Care Officers Association of the Municipality last Saturday in Accra.
The ceremony which also coincided with the graduation of about 20 Care giver attendants from pre-schools in the Municipality sought to revive activities of the centres after the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020.
Mr Doku indicated that children developed the love for school when given the necessary care and attention, as such every effort was needed from the association to revive the centres and admit more children.
He noted that he had been to a few of the schools and noticed the challenges, and assured of the assembly’s support to enable them get back to their feet after the COVID-19 outbreak.
Furthermore, the MCE stated that the assembly was aware of the challenges they face in terms of school fees, as well as infrastructure and other logistics to enable them deliver professionally.
Mr Doku said that as partners in care-giving, all efforts would be made to provide the necessary facilities to assist them to function effectively, explaining that a Kindergarten block was under construction at Armrahia and the assembly would put up another one at Ashieyie all in the Municipality.
He then entreated the executives to promptly report challenges they might face in the discharge of their duties towards addressing them.
The Chair of the executives, Mrs Sylvia Asempa, stressed the need for a united front towards achieving a common goal.
“We have to achieve a common goal by coming under one umbrella, streamline activities with a common vision aimed at satisfying our clients for the total development of the child and mother Ghana”, she added.
She stated that coming under one structure would enable them to speak with one voice and enforce compliance of bye-laws, work permit, fee fixing, supervision, and health care issues which could be done for mutual benefit.
The Chair assured of using her tenure to upgrade the skills of pre-school teachers and care giver, network and share experiences in accessing modern trends in early childhood development, and appeal to government for support to nurture the young ones to grow.
The Municipal Head, Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, Mr Devine Exorgbe, indicated that care-giving in schools was under the auspices of the department of social welfare and urged school proprietors to seek professional advice before establishing the centres.
On the graduating class of the care givers, he explained that they were trained in firefighting, first aid, how to handle toys and play objects, psycho social and psycho motor training, mental disorders and environmental health, and how to imbibe good character in the children.
