Malia Obama made her red carpet debut at the Sundance Film Festival in honor of the premiere of her new short, “The Heart.”
The elder daughter of former President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama braved the Park City, Utah, cold Thursday in a gray overcoat, pinstriped button-down, black jeans and thin gray scarf wrapped around her neck.
She paired her casual look with a pair of brown boots.
Malia, 25, screened her new project under the name Malia Ann — her middle name — and it will be submitted in the US short fiction films category at the festival.
“The Heart” tells the story of a lonely man who is grieving the loss of his mother, who left him an odd request when she died.

Sundance Institute/Youtube“The film is about lost objects and lonely people and forgiveness and regret,” Malia said in a “Meet the Artist” video for the festival, “but I also think it works hard to uncover where tenderness and closeness can exist in those things.”
Malia concluded her message saying that she hoped her short film makes people “feel a bit less lonely, or at least reminds you not to forget about the people who are.”
