A 33-year-old man, Nasiru Isa, was on Monday sentenced to seven years in jail for sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl in Kano.
The Federal High Court in Kano imposed the sentence on Monday, following Isa’s guilty plea to a one-count charge of sexual exploitation.
Presiding judge, Justice S.M. Shu’aibu found the defendant guilty and sentenced him to seven years in prison without an option of a fine.
Besides the prison sentence, Isa was also ordered to pay a fine of N1 million as compensation to the victim.
The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, in a statement, confirmed that Isa committed the crime on multiple occasions in October.
NAPTIP said, “On one occasion, Isa allegedly lured his neighbour’s daughter into his wife’s room and sexually exploited her just as he also within the month of October reportedly lured the girl to an uncompleted building and sexually abused her.”
During the trial, the prosecution presented evidence, including the defendant’s confessional statement and the victim’s testimony, to prove their case.
The court established that Isa’s actions violated the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, of 2015.
After finding Isa guilty as charged, Justice Shu’aibu accordingly sentenced Isa to seven years imprisonment without an option of a fine.
