Manchester City have identified Joshua Kimmich as their midfield target for the summer transfer window.
The Premier League champions are expected to battle La Liga giants Barcelona for the services of the German international.
According to HITC, Pep Guardiola wants to reunite with his former midfielder from his days at Bayern Munich and they are keeping an eye on the situation of the player at Allian Arena.
The 29-year-old’s contract at the German club expires next summer and he could be on the move if he decides not to extend his current deal.
At the moment, he is getting ready with Germany to win the Euro this summer on home soil.
But his club career could soon take an unexpected turn if the interest from Man City or Barcelona gets stronger.
Both the clubs have managers who have managed Kimmich before in Guardiola and Hansi Flick.
The report states that Kimmich is unsettled at the Allianz Arena following Thomas Tuchel’s disastrous spell at the club.
Bayern failed to win the Bundesliga title for the first time in more than a decade and they were knocked out in the Champions League semifinal by Real Madrid.
Joshua Kimmich is attracting interest from Man City and Barcelona.
It would not be a surprise if the German giants cash in on the player who is going to become a free agent next summer.
Guardiola signed the player for Bayern Munich from RB Leipzig and now he wants to sign him again for the recently crowned Premier League champions.
The German midfielder spoke to AS about his future:
“I want to talk to Bayern. And when I do that, I won’t go out and talk to the press about it.”
He discussed the rumours linking him to a move to La Liga:
“At the moment I’m not thinking about this. As I already said, I will speak to Bayern first. But of course, Barcelona and Real Madrid are amazing clubs with an amazing history.”
New Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany will have to convince Kimmich to stay at the club.
Guardiola would love to have Kimmich at Man City
The versatile player will not be short of options if he decides to leave the club he joined back in 2015.
Since Kimmich’s contract is scheduled to end in the summer of 2025, there have been constant rumours that he may leave the Allianz Arena, but as of right now, there has been no discussion on a contract extension.
He would fit in well at Man City under Guardiola and his passing game would be suited to how the Spaniard wants his team to play football.
