In the midst of interest from many top European clubs, including Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, Manchester City are likely to bolster their academy by signing American wonderkid Cavan Sullivan.
According to the Athletic, Sullivan, who has represented the United States at the youth level, is in advanced negotiations about moving to the Etihad Stadium.
At the age of 14, Sullivan is still playing football in the Philadelphia Union’s development system and has not yet agreed to a professional deal with the team.
However, it now appears like his future will be in England, as Pep Guardiola’s treble-winning team are anticipated to prevail in the competition for the teenager’s contract.
Man City are keen to invest in youth players
The report states that because Sullivan does not possess an EU passport, he will be loaned to another City Football Group Club, Lommel SK, in Belgium when he reaches 16 and won’t be able to play for City until he is 18.
USA wonderkid is heading to Man City. After leading Union’s under-15 squad to victory over teams like Real Madrid and Arsenal in the Generation Adidas Cup in April of last year, the teenager won the praise of Jim Curtin, the first team coach of the Union.
Man City have beaten serious competition to sign the youngster
Along with his accomplishments at his club, Sullivan won the Golden Ball as the best player in the CONCACAF U-15 Championships after leading the US team to victory.
Man City have formed their team by spending heavily in the transfer market but what deserves credit is how they have built their academy, developed players and recruited the best talent.
Sullivan has drawn interest from some of the top teams in Europe and is poised to make an impact on the game. Borussia Dortmund, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are all listed as having an interest in his services.
