Manchester City are pushing to sign in-form Eintracht Frankfurt forward Omar Marmoush in a transfer worth up to £50million, according to reports.
Marmoush joined Frankfurt on a free transfer in May 2023 and went on to enjoy an impressive debut season with the club, racking up 12 goals and six assists in the Bundesliga.
And the 25-year-old has continued to excel this season, notching up 18 goals and 12 assists in 24 appearances across all competitions this season.
The Egypt international’s tally of 13 Bundesliga goals is second only to Harry Kane and has helped Frankfurt into third place.
However, his exploits have also caught the eye of several top European clubs, with several Premier League clubs eyeing up a January deal for the versatile attacker.
And according to The Telegraph, City are leading the race to sign Marmoush as they look to refresh their squad after a poor first half of the season.
The report, however, suggests that any deal in January may prove difficult, with Frankfurt previously planning to cash in on Marmoush in the summer.
Liverpool and Arsenal have also been credited with interest in Marmoush who previously insisted that his sole focus remains with helping his current club build upon their impressive start to the campaign.
‘There’s always a lot of speculation on the outside. But I don’t actually have a particular dream goal,’ he recently told German publication Bild when asked about speculation surrounding his future.
‘What I can promise the fans is that I will give my all for Eintracht in every game. I am not thinking about a transfer. I am living in the here and now and enjoying my time in Frankfurt.
‘Eintracht believed in me and put their trust in me. I want to repay that trust with good performances and goals. What happens in the distant future, however, doesn’t interest me.
‘I want to continue to do my best so that at the end of the season we can say as a team: We have achieved something big.’
Speaking prior to the New Year, Guardiola previously suggested that he wanted City to sign a holding midfielder and centre-back in the upcoming transfer window to help rejuvenate his side.
‘Kevin [de Bruyne] is back but we need more in the middle and the back four, we have struggled with full-backs and central defenders,’ the Spaniard told Sky Sports following City’s 2-0 win over Leicester City.
‘In some positions we need help. The squad is good, the problem is we don’t have the squad and that makes everything difficult.
‘When we’re all together we’re the team we were but with important players out for weeks and months it’s so difficult.
‘I thought central defenders would be fit all season but we have struggled – holding midfield and central defenders we need help. The market is the market it’s not easy, it’s expensive so we will see what the club can do.’
Real Sociedad midfielder and former Liverpool target Martin Zubimendi has been scouted out as a potential January midfield signing, while Atalanta’s Ederson is also said to be under consideration.
