This Friday, Pep Guardiola was present at a press conference and he addressed several hot topics on the transfer window. The Spanish coach obviously did not fail to speak about the loss of his striker Julian Alvarez. The Argentinian international, winner of the last Copa America and eliminated in the quarter-finals of the Olympics against France, had asked to leave the English club. He wanted more playing time and therefore decided to go to Atlético de Madrid who should soon make his transfer official. A logical decision according to Pep Guardiola who was keen to defend the choice of his future ex-player.

“First of all I want to express my gratitude to Julian, we won everything, his contribution was huge. He was incredibly loved by the team for his behavior, but if he wants to leave, a new challenge – Atletico is a big club – so if you want to leave, it’s OK. We wish him the best. I learned a lot from him, I hope he finds what he was looking for. I don’t know why, he told me he wanted a new challenge, he feels that’s what he needs. Last season he played a lot, at times with Erling, but I understand that at times he didn’t play. I told the club many times that in the end it was the club that had the last word, but I say that contracts can be broken, if you are not happy, why should you be here? He thinks his time here should be over, so OK, the two clubs have reached an agreement and that’s it.”he explained in particular. That is clear.
