Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid are launching an ambitious transfer raid for Manchester City star Jack Grealish.

The Atletico manager is reportedly a fan of the England international, who was once the most expensive player in Premier League history.

According to a report from Trigger The Press, the La Liga giants are considering a move for him with Simeone being an admirer of the player.

At a record-breaking £100 million, the 28-year-old Grealish left Aston Villa to join Man City.

The winger underwent a significant improvement under Pep Guardiola in his second season following a challenging debut season.

When Jeremy Doku joined Man City from Rennes last summer, Grealish’s spot in the starting lineup was put in jeopardy.

Despite spending more time on the bench than he would have preferred, the Englishman has nevertheless managed to make 33 appearances across all competitions so far this season.

Due to his disappointing situation, Grealish has been linked to a summer departure from the Premier League, with a possible return to Aston Villa also mentioned.

Grealish was crucial for Man City last season

In 50 games last season, Grealish managed five goals and eleven assists to help Man City achieve an unprecedented treble of the FA Cup, Champions League, and Premier League.

Grealish’s ability to annoy opponents, something Atletico Madrid excel at, is something Simeone “greatly respects.”

Since João Félix is expected to depart the Metropolitano this summer, Simeone’s Atlético Madrid have been keeping an eye on the former Aston Villa player, and the funds necessary to facilitate the deal will be available.

Man City star was involved in a controversy

Given their history, Grealish joining up with Simeone’s side would undoubtedly be contentious.

In April 2022, the former captain of Villa battled with Stefan Savic, the defender for Atletico, during a Champions League match.

The two engaged in a heated fight in the tunnel in addition to their on-field altercations.

It remains to be seen if Grealish is willing to call time on his Man City career.
