Barcelona sporting director Deco has arrived in Leipzig on Tuesday to try and finalise a deal for Man City target Dani Olmo as the Catalan club are eager to add the Spain international to their squad for the 2024/25 campaign.
That is according to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, who reports that Olmo is Hansi Flick’s top target this summer and Barcelona are keen to get a deal wrapped up with the new season around the corner.
The Catalan club have already submitted a bid to the Bundesliga outfit worth an initial €50m plus €15m in add-ons after their opening offer was rejected by RB Leipzig.
The 26-year-old had a €60m release clause in his contract heading into the current transfer window but that expired during the summer. This gives interested parties more freedom to get a deal done but the Bundesliga side have still asked for that fee to be matched.
Barca are hoping to make big progress in their attempts to sign the Spanish star this week and Leipzig’s new managing director Marcel Schäfer has been speaking about Olmo’s potential move to the La Liga giants, admitting that a deal can be done.
“He is an outstanding player who holds significant value for us. We are ready to discuss it, but he has a certain value,” Schäfer stated via Plettenberg.
“If there is a solution by Thursday, then there is a solution. Otherwise, he will join our training here, and we will have another top player in our ranks.”
Barcelona are hoping to sign RB Leipzig’s Dani Olmo soon
Man City have been watching Dani Olmo’s situation closely
At the end of last month, Florian Plettenberg reported that Premier League champions Man City and German giants Bayern Munich are monitoring Olmo’s situation should Barcelona fail to sign the midfielder.
RB Leipzig have not received an official offer from Man City for Olmo, however, the Manchester club are monitoring the 26-year-old’s situation very closely and are in regular touch with the player’s camp.

The Spain international would be a great asset for Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium as he is very versatile and has tonnes of ability. The 26-year-old’s injury history will be a concern for the Manchester club but the Leipzig star could be viewed as Kevin De Bruyne’s replacement should this season be the Belgian’s last with the Premier League champions.
Barcelona are clearly leading the race for Olmo but should they fail to complete his signing, will Man City make a move for the Euro 2024 winner before the transfer window shuts?
