Manchester United have reportedly given up on Antony and are preparing to cut the underperforming winger loose at the end of the season.

The Brazilian, who joined from Ajax for a reported £86 million (Sky Sports) was one of Erik Ten Hag’s big summer signings 18 months ago.

However, despite becoming the Premier League’s seventh most expensive signing, Antony, 23, has been a major disappointment. Scoring just nine goals in 69 appearances, in all competitions, the South American has been one of United’s most disappointing signings.

And with youngster Alejandro Garnacho continuing to impress and taking Antony’s spot on the right flank, according to a recent report from Fichajes, it seems Ten Hag has finally given up on his former player.

In fact, so annoyed with Antony’s poor performances since he arrived at Old Trafford, Ten Hag is set to offload the 23-year-old at the end of the season. The Red Devils know they won’t be able to recoup anywhere near the near-£90 million they spent on him though.

Consequently, the club, led by the Glazer family and new shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe, have been forced to slash their asking price to just £43 million (€50 million) — a huge discount for any club looking to offer the struggling Brazilian a route out of his Manchester nightmare.
