According to reports, Manchester United have approached Julian Ward, the former sporting director of Liverpool, about a position at the team under the new INEOS management.

It was confirmed last week that Ratcliffe had completed the purchase of 27.7% stake in the club. Now a co-owner of the team, the British billionaire has formally assumed command of the sporting activities at Old Trafford.

United are keen to appoint sporting director Dan Ashworth from Newcastle United. After telling Newcastle that he wants to fully commit to the Red Devils, Ashworth was put on gardening leave by the club.

Along with Ashworth, United are eyeing a head of recruitment, who will join the sporting director’s team.

Julian Ward is one of the candidates being considered for the position, according to The Mirror. In their quest to appoint Ward, United have made significant progress.

The Athletic reported last week that Sir Dave Brailsford and Ward had discussions on Ward’s potential arrival to the 20-time English champions.

After being unemployed for the past 18 months, Ward is reportedly eager to step back into football again. As sporting director of Liverpool, he succeeded Michael Edwards in 2022, but he abruptly resigned a few months later, in a shocking move.

Ward was reportedly a significant figure at Anfield during his extraordinarily prosperous tenure. He assisted Edwards in locating and subsequently bringing in players such as Mohamed Salah, Alisson, Virgil van Dijk, and Sadio Mane.

His record speaks for him and if United can manage to convince him to join Ashworth’s team, the club might possibly have the best people in the country running the team.
