Manchester United midfield duo Casemiro and Christian Eriksen are reportedly expected to leave the club at the end of the season.

In fact, Eriksen’s departure from Man Utd could even come in the January transfer window, according to a report from Team Talk.

Both Casemiro and Eriksen look past their best now, with neither consistently able to give the Red Devils what they really need in midfield, and with that being reflected by the fact that so many changes have been made in that area of the pitch in recent times.

As well as the summer signing of Manuel Ugarte, the talented young Uruguay international who looks like an ideal long-term successor to Casemiro, Erik ten Hag has also introduced academy product Kobbie Mainoo into the first-team in the last year or so.

What next for Casemiro and Eriksen after Man United struggles?

It remains to be seen precisely what the future holds for this experienced midfield duo, but one imagines players of this calibre should still attract plenty of interest, even if they haven’t been at their best at Old Trafford.

Eriksen recently addressed questions about his future, telling the Daily Mail: “I feel very good being at United. If they told me to leave I would leave, but I didn’t hear that.

“I’m also a guy who likes being in a place where my family is settled and at the same time being in a place where I can benefit and play, that’s always going to be my aim.

“It’s difficult to ask the manager in the off-season how many minutes I’m going to get in a season. If he starts promising minutes to players we’re going to have a long season.

“There was no speaking in that sense, just head down, work hard and focus on each game.

There’s one year left so my focus is going to be on this year, going full out and see what happens afterwards.”
