Man United manager Erik ten Hag has stated that his team are still a work in progress following the Premier League club’s underwhelming start to the 2024/25 campaign.

Last season was a poor one by Man United’s standards and over the summer, there were doubts over the Dutch coach’s future at Old Trafford. The Red Devils’ FA Cup success played a role in the 54-year-old avoiding the sack but questions are being asked once again.

The Manchester club have continued where they left off last season during the opening part of the 2024/25 campaign and although performances have improved a bit, the results have not been great.

United currently sit 11th in the Premier League having won just two of their opening five league games and following their 1-1 draw with FC Twente in the UEFA Europa League on Wednesday night, questions over Ten Hag are being asked once again.

Despite spending over £150 million this summer, the Man United manager has stated that his team are still a work in progress, which are words fans of the Red Devils will not want to hear.

“Still we are working and in progress,” Ten Hag said during his latest press conference via Sky Sports. “We signed very young players like last year with Hojlund, now this year Zirkzee and Leny Yoro. We believe in them now in this moment but also for the future, we have to build them.

“But also I am impatient. I want to go straightforward. But we also had success and we have to work hard to bring more success.”

Will Man United sack Erik ten Hag before Christmas?

If results continue the way they have been in recent weeks, Ten Hag will find himself under severe pressure at Man United as the upcoming international break provides the Premier League club’s board with the perfect opportunity to make a change.

United play Tottenham, FC Porto and Aston Villa before then and should they fail to win all three, a change could occur.

These are not easy games for the Manchester club and the above outcome is high.

Although fans of Man United like Ten Hag, results can’t continue like they have been as it becomes clearer by the game that the Dutch coach is not the right man to lead the Premier League giants forward.
