Manchester United remain keen on signing Angel Gomes from Ligue 1 club LOSC Lille.

They have now been handed a boost in their pursuit of the 24-year-old midfielder. As per TBR Football, the player has informed the French outfit that he wishes to leave the club during the January transfer window. His current contract expires in the summer of 2025, and it is no surprise that he wants to sort out his long-term future quickly.

Lille could be under pressure to sell the player in January as well. They might not want to lose a player of his potential on a free transfer.

Manchester United need more technical ability and creativity in the middle of the park, and the former academy graduate would be a quality long-term addition for them. His performances have been quite impressive in the French league, and he has the attributes to succeed in England as well. He could develop into a key player for the club with the right guidance.

Manchester United will face competition from clubs like Tottenham Hotspur, and it remains to be seen whether they can win the race for his signature. The 24-year-old midfielder might feel that he has unfinished business at Old Trafford, and it would not be a surprise if he preferred to join them instead of another club.

Angel Gomes could be an asset for Man United

Journalist Julien Laurens has heaped praise on the midfielder, stating that he has the quality to make things happen on the pitch, and Manchester United could certainly use someone with his skill set.

Laurens said to BBC Sport: “He’s one of the best players in Ligue 1, there’s no doubt.

“The fans love him; a player that you enjoy watching because he’s just so elegant, so creative, such a great touch.

“If you know your football, you know that teams need players like Angel Gomes that make everything click and make everything happen.”

The midfielder is still quite young and he will only get better with coaching and experience. He could develop into a future star for Manchester United. Given his contract situation, he is likely to be available for a knockdown price in January and the move could look like a major bargain in the long term.
