Manchester United have reportedly entered the fray for Paraguayan teenager Pedro Leon who is also tracked by other Premier League giants.
The Red Devils are in the market for a new left-back, as Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are still struggling to maintain their fitness. The England international has recently sustained a new injury setback which could rule him out of action for a significant amount of time.
Diogo Dalot has been identified as Ruben Amorim’s main option for the left wingback spot, even though the Portuguese primarily plays on the right side. Therefore, the management is looking to bolster the department with a new arrival.
According to The Daily Mail, United have identified 17-year-old Leon as a potential profile for the role.
The teenager rose through the ranks of Cerro Porteno and has now become a regular starter with the first team despite his tender age. This season, the teenager has made 19 appearances in Paraguay’s top flight, scoring two goals in the process.
Man United keeping tabs on Paraguayan wonderkid Pedro Leon
The source describes the wonderkid as quick, tall, athletic and technically good on the ball, adding that United would be willing to splash £3 million for his services.
With former sporting director Dan Ashworth out of the door, the newspaper believes his old collaborator Jason Wilcox is the one holding the talks.
Nevertheless, United are warned about competition from their rivals Arsenal and Manchester City who have already scouted Leon in the past.
It should also be noted that a recent report from Italy had linked the Red Devils with a move for a more established left-back in the shape of Milan’s Theo Hernandez.
