Orkun Kokcu, a Turkish playmaker of Dutch descent, is reportedly a target for Manchester United ahead of the summer transfer window.
Man United are reportedly interested in Kokcu, according to Turkish journalist Koray Baloglu.
During the summer transfer window, the Red Devils are eager to bring in a box-to-box midfield player and Kokcu fits that profile.
Benfica, meanwhile, would seek almost €40 million to let go of the playmaker.
Kokcu can be useful for Man United
For a number of years, Kokcu has been one of Europe’s most exciting players. His creativity and output has impressed several clubs.
During his time playing for Feyenoord’s first team, he rose to prominence.
The playmaker captained Feyenoord before leaving them in the summer for the Portuguese league.
He was signed by Benfica for a fee of about €25 million, with the deal working amicably for all the parties involved.
In 34 games this season across all competitions, Kokcu has tallied three goals and 10 assists.
Orkun Kokcu to Man United?Entering the summer transfer window, however, there is uncertainty about Kokcu’s long-term future at Benfica.
While a number of elite clubs are interested in recruiting him, the Portuguese powerhouses are seeking €40 million to release him in order to recoup their investment. Among his potential suitors are Man United.
Man United are expected to lose a number of players
It makes sense that the Premier League club would be interested in the Turkish playmaker given the doubts about Christian Eriksen, Donny van de Beek, and Casemiro’s long-term prospects.
In addition, following a disappointing season at Old Trafford, Sofyan Amrabat is expected to rejoin Fiorentina during the summer transfer window.
Thus, Kokcu has become a realistic goal for the Red Devils. They are able to pay the €40 million needed to acquire the 23-year-old during the summer transfer window.
A player like him can provide creativity and stability in the middle of the park for the Red Devils, something they are desperately looking for.
