Journalist Dean Jones claims that Manchester United want to recruit a wide forward in the summer transfer window of 2024.

The journalist thinks United would rather buy a wide forward given the possible departures of Mason Greenwood, Jadon Sancho, Anthony Martial, and Antony from Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag is hoping for support in the summer transfer window as United attempt to consistently contend for major trophies and reclaim its position as England’s best side.

After a mediocre 2023–24 season, United will turn to the transfer window to restructure ten Hag’s team while they contemplate the possible sale of some current players.

There are too many players in Ten Hag’s current squad or on loan that need to be sold this summer. The Dutchman believes he has plenty of deadwood in the wide forward department that may provide funds and free up room on the team’s wage bill for new signings.

Greenwood and Sancho are currently out on loan and their future lies away from Old Trafford. Both are expected to be sold permanently in the summer.

Martial’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season and he will be leaving the club he joined back in 2015. As for Antony, the club are reportedly interested in letting him go after he failed to make an impact since his big money move from Ajax.

Jones stated that although Rasmus Hojlund has no real backup at the striker position, United would prefer to recruit a wide attacker. He told GiveMeSport:

“It’s a difficult one to gauge at the moment. Man Utd will have to mix up that frontline when you consider there’s so much uncertainty. Greenwood obviously won’t be back, Sancho is not there at the moment, Martial will be leaving, Antony’s not playing very well, and they would sell him if they could. I’m primarily told that they would prefer to look for a wide forward, but we can’t ignore that Hojlund doesn’t currently have any proper challenge for his spot or backup.”

The club have Crystal Palace star Michael Olise as a possible option for the right-wing in their mind. The French star has been consistently linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks.
