Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund is currently sidelined for a few weeks due to an injury, which leaves Erik ten Hag with limited choices up top.
Anthony Martial is already out with a long term injury and Marcus Rashford does not prefer to play upfront.
Due to shortage of options to play in attack, Scott McTominay has been tipped to replace the injured Hojlund and start upfront for the Red Devils.
Although the Scottish international plays best as a central midfielder, he has a history of contributing goals to the Red Devils offense from a deeper position.
Hojlund will be sidelined for “two or three weeks,” according to ten Hag, who made this announcement before of United’s match against Fulham this coming weekend. He also claimed that Hojlund’s injury is “small”.
Journalist Samuel Luckhurst of the Manchester Evening News has suggested a surprising attacking option, stating that McTominay may be a consideration in light of Rashford’s difficulties in the midfield.
He wrote on X: “Given how Rashford has unconvinced up top, Ten Hag has to consider McTominay to play there, given goalscoring form and stints there for the junior teams.”
McTominay has won more points through his goals than any other player in the Premier League this season. The Scottish midfielder has single-handedly won 12 points for United.
It’s unclear if McTominay could contribute to United in a centre-forward position, but it will be intriguing to watch if ten Hag gives it any thought over the coming weeks.
The injury to Hojlund comes just when he was finding his feet and showing the best form of his career.
