Man Utd midfielder’s recent ’bombshell’ admission on int’l duty has prompted transfer chiefs to pursue January backups

After arriving for international duty in Denmark last week, Christian Eriksen was almost immediately pressed on his situation at Manchester United.

It’s always going to be the case when a player enters the final year of their contract that the media put them in the hot seat to try and gauge their plans.

Eriksen, while still keeping tight-lipped on his thoughts, did confirm that no talks have taken place between himself at United regarding any potential extension. There is also no one-year option included in his terms, like there are with Harry Maguire and Amad Diallo, so he could well be playing his final season at Old Trafford.

Football Insider claims that the ‘bombshell’ admission has since alerted transfer chiefs to begin scouring the market for replacements, which seems somewhat far-fetched given that they’ll know the inside outs of the situation better than anyone and will be well aware that Eriksen is approaching the end of his Red Devils tenure.

In truth, you couldn’t blame the club for letting him go. While his experience and creativity have proven crucial at times, he just isn’t getting any younger, and he’ll never be the player he was during his peak at Tottenham Hotspur.

That’s not to say he hasn’t been a respectable servant since joining in 2022, though. He’ll also leave with a Carabao Cup and FA Cup added to his honours list, plus any potential silverware the club may add this season – if you want to be optimistic.

Along with the Dane, who scored and assisted in last night’s Nations League tie, Casemiro is one player who should be bidding farewell to Manchester next summer, too. He is tied to Old Trafford until 2026, but if his performances this season have shown anything, it’s that he’s rapidly declining on a downward trajectory.
