Manchester United are open to selling £85m flop Antony this summer but ongoing police investigations could scupper a move, according to reports.
Antony’s former partner, Gabriela Cavallin, has alleged that she has been physically attacked by the 24-year-old on multiple occasions during their time together in Manchester and in their native Brazil.
Antony, who has always strongly denied the accusations and says he is innocent, was placed on an indefinite leave of absence by United when the reports first came to light.
United welcomed him back while police inquires were still proceeding but the Red Devils are now plotting to offload him at the end of the season.
That could be tricky, though, with The Telegraph reporting that the ongoing probes from Greater Manchester Police and Sao Paulo Civil Police could complicate a possible exit unless the case is dropped or Antony is cleared.
Greater Manchester Police and Sao Paulo Civil Police are still investigating the assault allegations – although Antony and his representatives are convinced he has no case to answer – and that the player will be eventually vindicated.
On the pitch, Antony has massively struggled this season, remarkably failing to register a single goal or assist across 22 Premier League appearances.
Alan Shearer singled out Antony for criticism during United’s 1-0 FA Cup win over Nottingham Forest last month.
‘He might be disappointed he’s coming off but he hasn’t done anywhere near enough to warrant staying on the pitch tonight,’ Shearer told the BBC.
‘Same old, same old, get the ball, come inside, pass it to someone else or have a shot. It’s not enough when you cost that much money.’
