Mathys Tel won’t join Manchester United from Bayern Munich this winter after a ‘fail’ in negotiations between the two clubs, according to reports.

A number of Premier League clubs have expressed interest in signing the 19-year-old forward, who has informed Bayern of his desire to leave.

United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham were all linked with a move for Tel before he rejected the Blues and also turned down a switch to Spurs.

It was thought that Tel was ‘most open’ to joining Ruben Amorim’s side but fresh reports from France suggest that a move is now off the cards.

According to RMC Sport, negotiations between United and Bayern have ‘failed’ and they report he will not be moving to Old Trafford this winter.

It caps a miserable day for United, who suffered a 2-0 Premier League home defeat to Crystal Palace on Sunday, and also appear to have lost defender Lisandro Martinez to a serious injury.

With Tel having already snubbed Spurs and Chelsea – and with a move to United looking unlikely – Arsenal may now decide to step up their interest in the teenager, with Mikel Arteta keen to recruit a new attacking player.

Arsenal remain an attracting proposition for Tel, given they can offer not only Champions League football but a shot at the Premier League title.

The young Frenchman is also believed to have idolised Gunners legend Thierry Henry growing up.

Tel has produced 16 goals and seven assists across 83 games for Bayern to date.

He has struggled for regular game time since Vincent Kompany become head coach, though, which has seen him become keen to leave the club.

Tel joined Bayern from French club Rennes in 2022, with the German giants paying £24m for his signature.

The versatile France U21 international mainly operates as left winger but is happy to play on the right side and can also also be deployed in the centre-forward position.
