Manchester United rejected a deadline day approach from Italian side Como for teenage talent Gabriele Biancheri.

The 18-year-old has been with the Red Devils since 2023 when he moved from Cardiff City and while he is yet to make the step up to the senior team, he has been scoring regularly at youth levle.

The striker has been capped at age group level by Wales, scoring a hat-trick for his country’s Under-19 side in November.

His progress has been noted by Como, who made an offer for Biancheri on deadline day, according to Mail Plus.

Manchester United did not entertain the offer as they are keen to keep hold of the exciting talent, who does not turn 19 until September.

The bidding club reportedly ‘raised eyebrows’ due to the fact it came from Italy and the young striker could still declare his international allegiance to that country.

Born in Cardiff, it won’t be of any surprise given his name that he is of Italian descent and could still declare for Italy as he has only made youth level appearances for Wales.

Italian interest at club level is possibly part of a ploy to encourage him to switch allegiance to Italy, although there is no suggestion that he is looking to do so and Manchester United are planning to keep hold of him.

The young prospect is also eligible to play for England, so depending on how his development continues, there could be a three-way tussle for his loyalty.

Biancheri is set to remain in the United youth ranks for now while the likes of Dan Gore (Rotherham), Ethan Williams (Cheltenham) and Ethan Ennis (Doncaster) all moved out on loan during the transfer window.

Senior stars Marcus Rashford (Aston Villa) and Antony (Real Betis) have also left the Red Devils on loan deals, while Tyrell Malacia is expected to complete a short-term switch to PSV on Tuesday while the Dutch transfer window is still open.
