Manchester City, Bayern Munich superstars are Barcelona’s dream targets for the defensive midfield position

Barcelona are preparing for a busy summer ahead, where the club will not only have to find a new manager but also reinforce the squad.

The midfield department, in particular, is being viewed as a weak point and we can expect the club to sign at least one new player to add more depth in the unit.

Barcelona have been primarily looking for a new defensive midfielder, having struggled to replace Sergio Busquets in the number six slot.

Rodri & Kimmich: Barça’s dream options

A recent report from SPORT has pointed out that Rodri and Joshua Kimmich are Barcelona’s dream options, in their bid to reinforce the defensive midfield position.

Such was confirmed by sporting director Deco in a recent interview when the Brazilian heaped praise on these two midfielders.

Barça have been monitoring both Kimmich and Rodri for a long time as well. They were closely linked with a move for Kimmich during the summer transfer window.

Can Barcelona sign Rodri & Kimmich?

Barcelona’s economic condition, though, will make it extremely difficult for the club to get their hands on either of these individuals.

In Kimmich’s case, the midfielder has appeared reluctant to sign a new deal with Bayern Munich and has not harboured the best of relationships with coach Thomas Tuchel.

However, the German international could easily cost close to the €100 million mark. Bayern, for their part, are unwilling to release him anyhow, at least without the inclusion of Ronald Araujo in the operation.

As for Rodri, the Spaniard has a contract at Manchester City until 2027 and the Premier League giants have no reason to sanction his sale anytime soon.

The player, for his part, is happy in Manchester. Therefore, he remains an unrealistic target for Barcelona.
