Manchester City maestro attracted by the possibility of joining Barcelona

Barcelona forward Joao Felix made headlines on Monday when he said that Manchester City midfield maestro Bernardo Silva wants to join the Catalan club.

The forward had already revealed last week in an interview that he talks about the Blaugrana club with his fellow countryman.

Building on that, the on-loan Atletico Madrid forward stated that he has almost convinced Silva to join Barcelona, saying:

“Everything I said about Bernardo Silva was true. He has asked me about placed to live in Barcelona, places to eat, the safety here, tax issues. A little bit about everything.

“I think I have convinced Bernardo to come to Barcelona, but it does not depend on him.”

Silva attracted to the possibility of Barça

Now, building on the statements made by Joao Felix, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Bernardo Silva is indeed attracted by the possibility of signing for Barcelona.

The 29-year-old has been on the radars of the Catalan outfit for a long time now and efforts were even made to sign him last summer but to no avail.

As per Romano, Bernardo has always been excited about the possibility of playing in Spain, in particular for Barcelona, for a long time.

Based on that, it would be fair to assume that the Portuguese international would be willing to make the move to Barcelona come summer provided an agreement is reached.

FFP will dictate transfer

However, Romano went on to add that any move for Silva from Barcelona’s part would be dictated by their Financial Fair Play situation.

The 29-year-old signed a new contract with Man City last summer which contains a £50 million release clause.

However, at this point, it is unclear if Barcelona would be able to spend that much money on the player, especially with some other important signings also being targeted by the Catalans.

There have been reports of the Blaugrana looking for a deal wherein they can pay his fee in instalments, but whether Manchester City would agree to such an arrangement remains to be seen.
