Manchester City midfielder Rodri admits he would be open to discussions over a move to Real Madrid.

The 28-year-old has been a pivotal figure in Pep Guardiola’s side since he was signed in a £62.6 million deal from Atletico Madrid in 2019.

During his time at City, Rodri has won 10 trophies including four Premier League titles and the Champions League. In the summer, he was also instrumental in Spain’s success at Euro 2024, which was a major factor behind him beating Vinicius Jr to win the Ballon d’Or last month.

Reports in Spain have claimed that Madrid have identified Rodri as a potential transfer target next summer as the Spanish club look to strengthen their midfield options.

When asked about a potential switch to Madrid, Rodri said in an interview on Cadena Ser’s El Larguero: ‘When Madrid, the best club in history, the most successful, call you, it is an honour and you always have to pay attention.’

However, Rodri also insisted that he is happy at City and could even envisage seeing out the remainder of his career in the Premier League.

‘I have two years left on my contract, the time is approaching to start talking again,’ the midfielder said.

‘The Guardiola deal is an important incentive. I feel very valued at the club.

‘It could very well be a possibility to finish my career in England. It has given me everything and I love the football there.

‘But Spain is my country. I always pay attention to the league, the level of the teams is getting better and better.’

Asked what club he would like to retire at, Rodri replied: ‘Villarreal would be a good place.’
