Joao Cancelo remains a key transfer target for FC Barcelona this summer but discussions with Manchester City have not been fruitful thus far.

The Portuguese international spent the last season on loan at the Catalan club and enjoyed a largely impressive campaign, despite there being some critical errors that hurt the team.

Despite that, though, the Blaugrana hierarchy are eager to secure his signing again on another loan deal for the right-back.

Manchester City, though, are not willing to play ball and want to offload Cancelo permanently, especially with interest coming from Saudi Arabia.

Manchester City lower asking price

Now, though, SPORT reports that Manchester City have opted to lower their demands for Joao Cancelo in an attempt to speed up his departure.

The Premier League champions had been holding out for a fee of around €30 million to part ways with the right-back initially.

But now they are open to the possibility of selling Cancelo for less than €20 million in the hope that it helps them offload him as soon as possible.

Not only that, but Manchester City are also offering the defender, who has fallen out of favour with Pep Guardiola, to several clubs in a bid to get rid of the Portuguese star.

Barcelona unmoved

Despite Manchester City’s move to lower their asking price for Cancelo, it changes nothing as far as Barcelona are concerned.

The Blaugrana want Cancelo and see him as a priority signing before the next season. But they intend to sign him only on loan with a non-mandatory option to buy and they are holding firm.

Barcelona spoke to Cancelo and made it clear to him that he could stay as long as he came back on loan and his agent, Jorge Mendes, has been negotiating the issue without success so far.

Amidst this, Juventus have emerged as suitors for the 30-year-old although things are not advancing in negotiations with Manchester City.

Barcelona are aware that Cancelo only wants to play for them and are prepared to play the patient game as they believe City would eventually give in like last summer.

The player, for his part, is not in a hurry to resolve his future either. Only time will tell how the situation resolves and where Cancelo plays next season.
