What does the future hold for Pep Guardiola? Having arrived on the Manchester City bench in July 2016, the former Bayern Munich and FC Barcelona coach sees his contract end in June 2025. Speaking to the media ahead of City’s upcoming pre-season friendly against AC Milan at Yankee Stadium in New York, Guardiola made a nice point.

“I know it was maybe not right to say that at the time, when we won the Premier League.”first acknowledged the Manchester coach, returning to his statements from last season. And continued: “But I said I’ve been at Manchester City for eight years. I’m not going to be here for another eight years. So I’m closer to leaving than staying. But I didn’t say I’m leaving! When I leave, I’ll say I’m leaving. But I didn’t say it. Maybe it wasn’t right but that was my feeling at the time.”.
Happy in Manchester, Guardiola has finally left the door open to a future extension. Enough to reassure Manchester supporters… “We spoke with the club and we said that it’s been a lot of years, so we’ll see what happens. But I will absolutely not rule out the idea of extending. I would love to stay. Nine years, today, at the same club, is an eternity and I want to be sure that it’s the right decision, not only for me, for the club, it’s the right decision for the players, that they continue to run like they did for eight years, no matter the competition, no matter the tournament.
