The announcement had the effect of a bombshell last night. Director of football at Manchester City since 2012, Txiki Begiristain has decided to leave the Skyblues at the end of the season. A decision which also casts even more doubt on Pep Guardiola’s future at City, with the Catalan close to his compatriot.

The Cityzens have not yet made anything official, but they are visibly working behind the scenes to find a replacement. And what could be better than fishing for the right recruit from a City Football Group member club? Spanish radio RAC1 claims the English have made an offer to Girona sporting director Quique Carcel. But the latter would have refused Mancunian advances, preferring to continue his project within the Catalan club.
