Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson has been linked with a shock summer move away from the Premier League champions, with interest in his signature from Saudi Arabia.
The 30-year-old has been with the club since arriving from Benfica in 2017, amassing 332 appearances under Pep Guardiola.
He landed his sixth Premier League title on Sunday, having already won the Champions League, two FA Cups and four EFL Cups.
The Brazil international is under contract until 2026 and there is no signal that Manchester City want to move him on, but there is talk that he may look for a new opportunity elsewhere.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports a summer move for the ‘keeper is a ‘possibility’ and that he is considering his options ahead of the summer break.
There would certainly be interest in the standout stopper around Europe, but Romano reports clubs in the Saudi Pro League are already keen to make a move.
Ederson’s season is already at an end ahead of the FA Cup final as he fractured his eye socket in the clash with Tottenham last week.e
Despite another successful season for Ederson, it has ended in a frustrating manner, missing the final day win over West Ham and the FA Cup final against Manchester United at Wembley.
He will also sit out the Copa America this summer as his eye socket injury has seen him left out of the Brazil squad for the tournament starting next month.
After Ederson was replaced by Stefan Ortega against Spurs, the German received great praise for his saves late in the game, especially in stopping a Son Heung-min effort, but Guardiola was keen to make sure his first choice ‘keeper was not forgotten.
‘People talk about the incredible save from Stefan (against Son) many times and it was,’ said Guardiola. ‘But Eddie has done it before with Son and the same action and saved it. Do you know the reason why we won the Champions League last season? It was Ederson.
‘He made an incredible save against Madrid from the header from Benzema. In the final of the Champions League, he was the key player and the key to win.
‘We cannot define this period without Eddie. It is impossible. It’s been a strange season for him – four setbacks, four times injured – a keeper four times, with incredible knocks, I’ve never seen that.
‘Today in modern football you need two proper, proper keepers. Before it was clear the first keeper and the second keeper, the distance was so big.
‘And of course everybody knows, the team knows, they both know that Ederson is the first keeper, but the distance is not. Because you need it.’
