Manchester is blue! It was the shock of this 27th day of the Premier League and it is for Manchester City! This Sunday, the Citizens won the Mancunian derby against Manchester United with a score of 3 goals to 1.

Despite United’s quick opening score through Marcus Rashford, the Skyblues reacted well after returning from the locker room thanks to a double from Phil Foden, sparkling on the pitch at the Etihad Stadium and a goal from Erling Haaland at the end of the match.

This victory allows Pep Guardiola’s men to come back within a point of Liverpool who won this Saturday in the money time at Nottingham (1-0).

Opposite, the Red Devils concede a second defeat in a row in the Premier League. Erik ten Hag’s players are losing ground for the qualifying places for the Champions League. United have 44 points, 9 behind fourth-placed Aston Villa.

Marcus Rashford air-conditions the Etihad at the entrance

From the kick-off, both teams showed their ambitions. On the one hand, and as usual, City plays with a high block on the pitch in order to suffocate their opponent. Different strategy for Erik ten Hag, who opted for a low block with projections and quick forward transmissions.

Despite Man City’s domination, United found the fault in a lightning counterattack. Marcus Rashford receives a ball at the edge of the area which he places under Ederson’s bar. A sumptuous goal which extinguished the Etihad public (1-0, 8th).

Phil Foden, the magician who takes charge

Trailing at the break, Manchester City will continue on the same momentum as in the first half. Pep Guardiola’s protégés will wear down their opponents and succeed in breaking the deadlock a few minutes before the hour mark. Phil Foden sounds the revolt by unleashing a magnificent left-footed shot which leaves André Onana no chance (1-1 , 56th).

A few minutes later, the English genius did it again and punctuated a nice collective movement with the flat of his left foot (2-1, 80th). Erling Haaland finished the job by scoring his 18th league goal, taking advantage of a technical error from Sofiane Amrabat (3-1, 90+1).
