Manchester United youngster James Scanlon received his first call-up to the senior Gibraltar squad this week.

The 17-year-old came off the bench in Gibraltar’s 1-0 defeat against Lithuania.

Scanlon, who joined United from Derby County’s youth system in 2023, came on to make his debut in the 74th minute. Gibraltar were already trailing by a goal and they couldn’t find a way back into the game.

The youngster will be disappointed with the result but he will hope this was the first of many international appearances at senior level after becoming the first United player to represent Gibraltar.

It is understood that Scanlon could also represent England, although he has come through with Gibraltar’s U17 and U21 teams.

Interestingly, his younger brother Luca is also part of the United academy.

The Scanlon brothers could be worth keeping an eye on.
