Manchester United and West Ham are among the clubs interested in Bayern Munich’s Leon Goretzka, who is ‘upset’ over his lack of game time with the German giants.

The midfielder has fallen down the pecking order under new manager Vincent Kompany and has played just one minute of competitive football so far this season.

The 29-year-old is behind Aleksandar Pavlovic and summer signing Joao Palhinha in Kompany’s plans and is not happy about it.

Bayern’s director of sport, Max Eberl, said of Goretzka’s situation :’We communicated very clearly from the start.

‘Leon knew that we were relying on Pavlo [Pavlovic], and that we would bring in with Palhinha and that Josh [Kimmich] would play more in the centre again.

‘We’ve also said that when Leon is there and ready to face the situation, he’ll be treated completely normally.

‘Leon’s a great guy. I like him a lot, even though he’s obviously upset at the moment. I understand that too. But that’s part of life in football.’

The Sun report that both Manchester United and West Ham have both already shown interest in the Germany international, while other Premier League sides could well make a move if a Bayern Munich exit appears nailed on.

Goretzka’s contract at Bayern runs until the summer of 2026, so with his transfer value set to fall as he heads into the final year of his deal, the Bavarians may well be happy to sell in January.

A stumbling block for any deal would be the huge wages that Goretzka is on at Bayern, with the former Schalke man reportedly earning around £273,000-a-week.

The midfielder turns 30 in February and would bring a huge amount of experience to any club he joins, with 57 Germany caps to his name.

He has won five Bundesliga titles with Bayern and the Champions League in 2020.

However, he looks unlikely to win his place back any time soon under Kompany after a great start to the season for Bayern, winning their first three Bundesliga matches and already clear at the top of the table.
