Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Lazio goalkeeper Ivan Provedel, according to a report from Italy.
The Red Devils are temporarily without their primary goalkeeper Andre Onana who is away on international duty to represent Cameroon in the AFCON.
United are likely to be short in the goalkeeping department for up to a month since Erik Ten Hag does not appear to be convinced with Altay Bayindir, a fellow summer arrival who will take Onana’s spot in the former Inter Milan goalkeeper’s absence.
Sport Quotidano claims that Provedel, who made headlines earlier this season by scoring a last-minute equalizer for Lazio in the Champions League, is a target for United.
According to Quotidiano Sportivo, Manchester United are genuinely interested in signing the goalie, therefore the Italian team should keep an eye out for them.
There are rumors that a new contract with a higher wage might help Lazio stave off Premier League interest.
It’s possible that Provedel’s team brought United into the negotiations in an effort to convince Lazio to provide a bigger contract.
Signing a goalkeeper this month might not be the wisest move from the club as André Onana and Altay Bayındır both joined last summer.
Onana could return soon from the AFCON if Cameroon are knocked out early so signing a goalkeeper does not make any sense with other positions needing more attention in the transfer market.
United are already in the market to sign a new striker, a midfielder who could replace Casemiro if the Brazilian leaves the club and a young defender.
