Brentford manager Thomas Frank is on Manchester United’s shortlist of potential candidates to replace Erik ten Hag this summer, according to reports.

Ten Hag’s position is under threat following a sub-par campaign with United, who have registered just one win in their last eight Premier League games.

The Dutchman will still have a year remaining on his contract with United but the club have been linked with several managers ahead of the summer, including England boss Gareth Southgate and Thomas Tuchel, who is leaving Bayern Munich at the end of the season.

According to The Telegraph, United’s hierarchy have not made a final decision over Ten Hag’s future and will not do so until they conduct a review of the campaign this summer.

However, the report adds that Frank could be in contention to replace Ten Hag as he has an ‘existing relationship’ with Ineos and Sir Dave Brailsford, who will be a key figure behind United’s revamp.

Frank signed a contract extension with Brentford in December 2022 which keeps him tied to the club until 2027.

The 50-year-old guided Brentford to promotion to the Premier League in 2021 and the team finished 13th and ninth in their following two seasons in the top flight.

Brentford have endured a more tricky campaign this term and currently sit 16th in the Premier League ahead of their final game of the season at home to Newcastle United on Sunday.

Speaking earlier this season, Frank revealed that he had turned down offers to leave Brentford.

‘I doubt I’ll find a club that does everything better than Brentford,’ Frank said in an interview with the Evening Standard in December.

‘I’ve got a good daily life, which is important. What will happen in the future, I don’t know. I’m very ambitious – that could be here, that could be somewhere else.

‘If it turns out that I one day move, it’s because I felt that was the right decision. But there’s too much I want to improve here.’
