Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has been fined for speeding earlier this year.
The England international isn’t the quickest in the heart of United’s defence whenever he plays, but The Sun reports that Maguire has been slapped with a £1,000 fine for speeding in his Land Rover.
Maguire was clocked by a traffic camera on the A616 in South Yorkshire doing 68mph in a 60mph zone.
The centre-back admitted to the offence and pleaded guilty and his case was processed on Monday of this week, ahead of United’s 1-1 draw with FC Twente in their Europa League opener at Old Trafford. It wasn’t the result Erik ten Hag wanted as he started Maguire in defence alongside Lisandro Martinez.
Maguire was fined £670 on top of having three points added to his licence and his additional £268 victim surcharge and £90 in court costs, took a total of the fine to £1,028.
After accepting wrongdoing, Maguire will now dust himself off and continue to work hard on the pitch for United. It’s something he will want to put behind him.
Maguire part of a forgetful night against Twente
United started their 2024/25 Europa League campaign in misery against Erik ten Hag’s former club Twente.
The Dutchman had egg on his face at full-time as the scoreline read 1-1 and the pressure is on before United face Tottenham on Sunday.
Maguire is unlikely to earn another starting berth that quickly with Ten Hag likely go back to his preferred back four of Noussair Mazraoui, Matthijs de Ligt, Martinez and Diogo Dalot.
We’ll still need to put our chances away.
