Matthijs de Ligt has provided an update amid fears he suffered an injury during the closing stages of Manchester United’s 3-0 win over Southampton at St. Mary’s Stadium.
The new signing started at centre-back alongside Lisandro Martinez and opened the scoring for United shortly after Southampton had a penalty denied by Andre Onana.
De Ligt returned to United after a disappointing international break on an individual note, but he turned things around this afternoon with a solid display in the heart of defence.
With Lisandro Martinez and Harry Maguire appearing to have picked up injuries during the win, United fans will be relieved to hear De Ligt only had a touch of cramp.
De Ligt told TNT Sports in a post-match interview: “I’m fine I just had a little bit of cramp the last five minutes. It’s the first time I think in five months that I played three times in a row.
“I wanted to play until the end but the coach said it would be better to take me off.”
“It’s my wife’s birthday today so that one was for her” 🙌
