Gameweek 21 came to an end on Monday evening after Brighton and Hove Albion oversaw a goalless stalemate at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The point for the Seagulls sees them leapfrog Manchester United into seventh place, with Erik ten Hag’s side now sitting eighth and 11 points away from the top-four. United and Brighton are level on points (32) but the latter leads through goal difference.
After a tumultuous first half of the term, the Reds are currently the lowest-scoring side of the top-14 (24) and the only team to hold a negative GD (-5), so it’s safe to say they’ve got a mountain to climb if they want any form of European football at Old Trafford next season.
Next up for United
United return to league action on February 1 after their winter break and a fourth-round FA Cup tie. They travel to face Wolves at the Molineux on February 1 with the late kick-off slot of 8.15pm. Three days later, they host West Ham United at home.
