Manchester United duo Alejandro Garnacho and Lisandro Martinez have been called up by Lionel Scaloni for Argentina’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

It feels like we’ve only welcomed back our players from major international tournaments, including Garnacho and Martinez, yet there’s talk of them leaving for international duty so early on in the season.

Argentina are set to face Chile and Colombia in September (6th and 10th) and it came as no surprise to see two United players named in Scaloni’s side.

The current World Cup champions go into the qualifiers after winning the Copa America over the summer, so they will be favourites to qualify again.

Scaloni’s side beat Colombia 1-0 in the Copa America final in July and Martinez played a key role for Argentina throughout the tournament, having started five of the country’s six matches.

Martinez played such an impressive role that Argentina did not concede a goal while he was on the pitch. A fantastic record.

Meanwhile, Garnacho made just one appearance in the tournament. His aim will be to have a greater impact on Scaloni’s side during the qualifiers before going to his first World Cup as a senior international.

Best of luck to Argentina in the World Cup qualifiers – not that they will be needing it!
