Manchester United: Erik ten Hag hits journalists on the subject of his future

Manchester United’s situation has never been as unclear as it has been for several weeks. Since the arrival of Ineos, the sports management still seems to be hesitant about the choice of coach. It must be said that the Erik ten Hag case clearly divides. The Dutch technician has never been unanimous within the Red Devils and has often even had disappointing results. This summer, we logically expected to see him leave, but the Mancunian club surprised everyone by choosing continuity. A choice which is not paying off for the moment since Manchester United continues to experience disillusionment.

Since the start of the season, the Mancuniens have only won two small matches (2 draws and 3 defeats) and are in 14th place after 8 days. An anomaly for a club of this size. And the future of Erik ten Hag is constantly put back on the table since the English tabloids logically speak of a possible dismissal with this type of result. But for the moment, the club maintains its confidence and does not intend to change things at all. This is what Ten Hag explained at a press conference this successful Friday, at the same time, the journalists present on site.

Erik ten Hag attacks journalists

“If I’m going to be fired? No, the noise is only coming from the media, from some of you, not all of you, creating stories and fairy tales, telling lies because I know we are on the same page within this club. I said it before the break, but several journalists probably didn’t believe me. Inside the club, it’s calm. We are sticking to the plan and we are very confident that it will be a success, so we are remaining calm”explained the former Ajax coach before continuing. “We have to climb a mountain, but it’s top-level football, sometimes you have to face challenges, but I’m sure we will succeed, as we did in the last two seasons. I see the good things, the good trends and the good statistics which confirm that we are in the right direction, but the rankings don’t lie and our current position is not good enough.

But then how can we explain his team’s catastrophic start to the season (one of the worst in the club’s history)? Erik ten Hag has his own ideas on the subject and it has nothing to do with the level of the team according to him. “I think the players are good, we won last season, you might have forgotten. When we face problems, sometimes we have to field teams that are not in the right balance because the players are not available, but I think in general the players are good. We have to start scoring now, which is the most important part of football. We need to improve this part”. This is clear. But not sure that this eases tensions between the Dutch technician and the English press. The ground must now speak.
