Manchester United: Erik ten Hag’s big rant

Manchester United’s season is difficult. In addition to the long process of buying part of the club by INEOS, the English club is having all the difficulty in the world to string together good results. Already, there was this elimination from the group stage of the Champions League, which was difficult and called into question the future of Erik ten Hag. There were also individual failures like the errors of André Onana and the lack of success of Rasmus Hojlund, who was also voted player of the month for February yesterday.

The numerous injuries are also one of the reasons for this bad season, where the residents of Old Trafford are stuck in 6th place in the Premier League before the reception at the start of the afternoon at Everton. Too many players were out for a while, which inevitably delayed the Ten Hag process. The Dutchman does not hide behind this but he appeared very frustrated at a press conference before the duel against the Toffees. He accuses the club’s medical staff of not having done their job well.

Ten Hag attacks medical staff

He explains, for example, that the medical staff had assured him of the return of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia for the month of January. He then agreed to end the loan of Sergio Reguilon, sent back to Tottenham (the Spaniard has since been loaned to Brentford). However, the Englishman has relapsed from his hamstring injury and sees his end of the season being compromised, while for the Dutch left-back, seriously injured in the knee, a return is still not envisaged.

“We’re talking about one of my biggest frustrationsbegins Ten Hag. In December, I had discussions internally, with the medical and performance staff. They assured me that they would both be fit in January and that we would have two left backs. Then there is a third (Reguilon), so I had to disappoint one.” According to the Mancunian coach, Malacia and Shaw will not play again this season, forcing him to field Victor Lindelof or Sofyan Amrabat in an unusual position for them.

“You can accept in a position that a player is not available, but when two players are not available during the season it is very frustrating, because it is also very difficult for the team to make up for. We coped with it as best we could, but of course it’s a downside.” An accusation which also echoes the changes that Jim Ratcliffe wishes to make, who still paid 1.4 billion euros for a club which is struggling to function properly.
