Manchester United have ramped up their scouting of Atalanta midfielder Ederson after identifying the Brazilian as a potential replacement for Casemiro.
Casemiro, 31, is likely to leave United at the end of the season after just two years at Old Trafford.
The former Real Madrid ace excelled during his first season at the Theatre of Dreams but his second term has been well below-par.
Casemiro will have two years left on his deal at the end of the season, and United will listen to offers from Saudi Arabia.
Getting Casemiro off the books would free up significant space on the wage bill and United scouts were in attendance as Atalanta drew 2-2 against Juventus on Sunday.
The primary reason for the trip was to watch Ederson in action.
The 24-year-old has impressed since moving to Europe from his homeland.
The midfielder has made 72 appearances for Atalanta, scoring seven goals and providing two assists.
But it’s his energetic displays and screening of the back four that have caught United’s eye, according to the Daily Mail.
