Manchester United are looking at potential signings for next season and Joselu Mato is one of the latest names to be linked with a move to Old Trafford.

According to Spanish outlet Relevo, two scouts from United were in contact with the Espanyol striker’s entourage to find out about his situation some weeks ago.

Joselu, 34, is currently on loan at Real Madrid and it is understood that his priority in the summer will be to remain in the Spanish capital. He has 13 goals and 3 assists in 38 appearances.

With plenty of experience in the Premier League with Newcastle and Stoke City, a good physique, ability to hold-up play and an eye for goal, Mato is thought to be under consideration at Old Trafford. In 68 Premier League matches, Joselu managed 10 goals and 3 assists, a combined tally from his time at Newcastle and Stoke.

Real Madrid paid Espanyol €500k for his loan deal last summer after they were relegated to the second tier of Spanish football. There is an option to make the deal permanent for €1.5m this summer.

United will be left with one recognised centre-forward when Anthony Martial’s contract expires in the summer. That is why we must sign a striker to offer competition for Rasmus Hojlund – or simply a backup option to have on the bench.
