Manchester United have reportedly held talks with France midfielder Adrien Rabiot over a potential summer move to Old Trafford.
The Juventus midfielder has been linked with United in the past, although a deal never materialised.
Rabiot could be acquired on a free transfer this summer since his Juventus deal expires at the end of the month. Reports in Italy doubt whether he will put pen-to-paper on an extension.
According to TEAMtalk, United have made contact but face competition from other clubs like Arsenal and Aston Villa for Rabiot’s signature.
It is understood that Rabiot has a three-year deal on the table from Juventus, however, he is currently competing at Euro 2024 and won’t be solving his future until the tournament has finished. France are likely to reach the latter rounds which will delay a deal from happening – whether he stays at Juventus or moves elsewhere.
The 29-year-old could bring creativity as well as experience to United’s midfield, with the Reds expected to sell Casemiro and Christian Eriksen this summer.
Rabiot could also add technical ability, control and physicality to the side – but his agent/mother has proven to be a tricky negotiator in the past.
What Rabiot said about potentially leaving Juventus
Speaking in March, the France international kept his cards close to his chest when asked about his future.
Rabiot said (H/t Manchester Evening News): “I will wait to the end of the season, then we will discuss it with the club and at that moment I will see. For now, I am trying to remain concentrated, to recover from my injury, end the season well and prepare for the Euros.
“I am in no rush to make a decision. I must reflect carefully, seeing as I am reaching an important age in my career. I feel at my peak and it will be important to make the right choice. I think it is best to make a decision before the Euros, so I can focus on that.”
While Rabiot didn’t get to make a decision on his future before the European Championship, I’m sure he will be keen to get it solved once the tournament ends.
