Manchester United eye golf courses to improve training ground facilities

Manchester United are looking at golf courses as a potential new training ground.

According to the Daily Mail, club officials are away of space limitations at the Carrington training complex, and have focused on golf courses in the South Manchester area.

Preliminary talks with High Legh Park Golf Club took place but an agreement couldn’t be reached between the parties involved. The course was bought by Warrington-based American Golf for £2.7m in 2021 and put up for sale last year.

The report states United remain open-minded about a move from Carrington in attempt to build a world-leading facility for club staff and players.

It is understood that they want a site with a minimum of 100 acres of buildable land.

There is a feeling that Carrington, although it could be upgraded, will never meet the standards of training grounds used by Man City and Tottenham.

One option is to build a new facility and keep Carrington as well as former training base The Cliff and using both sites. The preference is to have everyone on one site, but it depends on whether the right location can be found.

INEOS have yet to have their deal for 25% of United ratified by the Premier League, but it’s promising that they are already looking at ways to improve the club’s infrastructure as well as meeting with fan groups.
