Manchester United have discussed the possibility of signing Brentford striker Ivan Toney internally, but it remains to be seen if a formal offer will be made.

The Reds are considering a swoop for Toney as Brentford lower their asking price to £50 million, as per The Athletic.

Brentford are not appearing to be under any pressure to sell their forward, even though his contract expires next year.

Last summer, Toney had a valuation between £80 million and £100 million.

A betting ban came as a significant blow and it has a huge impact on the player’s market price.

The England international has been tipped as a useful option for United, who have two striker options in the squad going into the new season with Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee.

There is still room for a third striker in the squad. Toney’s experience could benefit the likes of Hojlund and Zirkzee, but the team would also score more goals as a result.

The 28-year-old has been linked with moves to other clubs for the past year, yet it looks like he could be stuck at Brentford for an extra year.

Toney won’t like how those links have gone quieter in recent times.
