Manchester United have appointed Ipswich Town head of recruitment Sam Williams as their new academy lead scout.
Williams has decided to return to the club he left in April 2022 as lead scout for the 17-21 age bracket and lead on recruitment of high potential talent for the club’s development programme.
For that information alone, we know that Williams has previously worked closely with Nick Cox, the current director of academy at United which means he will already be known around Carrington and beyond.
According to The Athletic, Williams’ appointment was led by Cox and Steve Brown (head of scouting operations).
It comes just days after Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sir Dave Brailsford met with academy staff to give a presentation on how key they see the academy being for the future of the club.
After a successful two-year spell at Ipswich, working alongside former United assistant coach Kieran McKenna, Williams is back at United and will report into head of academy recruitment, Luke Fedorenko.
Exciting times for United… Hopefully!
