Former Manchester United striker Andy Cole is worried about Casemiro’s form – despite the Brazilian’s late match winner at Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup on Wednesday night.
Cole was speaking to Betfred ahead of the Manchester derby and he raised an issue with Casemiro’s form.
It’s obviously a concern for United that Casemiro is not having the same influence on the team that he had last season. However, he has had injuries and we also signed a player from Real Madrid that is coming to the latter stages of his career.
Cole told the bookmaker, as quoted by The Sun: “You have to be concerned because he was such a big influence last season.
“So if you’re such a big influence one season and then you’re struggling the next, then of course everybody’s going to ask questions.
“In his debut season for Manchester United, Casemiro was incredible and you would have expected to same level of performances from him this season.
“I don’t believe he’s the only Manchester United player whose performances have dipped, but people are questioning Casemiro’s performances because they expect so much more from him.”
Casemiro has been linked with a move away from United in the summer, although the strongest rumours are linking him with a switch to the Saudi Pro League.
I would argue that we need a new defensive midfielder whether Casemiro stays or not, but it may be best to sell when you consider the hefty salary he is earning.
