He has surely been the attraction of Manchester United’s season. Unknown to the battalion before the start of this 2023-2024 vintage, Kobbie Mainoo lit up the Red Devils’ matches thanks to his talent and his appropriate freshness to revitalize the Mancuniens who are too often morose. Selected with England for Euro 2024, the 19-year-old midfielder therefore has a bright future ahead of him and several of his fans are already getting excited and comparing him to the greatest players in the history of the most successful English club. Paul Scholes could not avoid these comparisons.

Asked about the level of his younger brother and the comparisons made between him and United’s number 37, the former darling of Old Trafford admitted that he was less efficient than Mainoo at the same age: “*don’t lose your time with comparisons between me and Kobbie Mainoo…He is 10 times the player I was at 19. I love the way he receives the ball, his calmness, his awareness of his surroundings and his big goals in big matches. He’s special and he’s a f*** from Red!” The message is clear.
