Manchester United left-back Brandon Williams joined Ipswich Town on loan last summer.
Williams, who came through the academy, has been back at United since the start of the year ‘for assessment’ following spells in and out of the side.
But the real reason could be much more sinister.
A court heard today that Williams inhaled laughing gas before being involved in a high-speed car crash, as per The Sun, with the defender facing magistrates over last year’s 74mph crash.
Prosecutor Katie Johnson said: “He [Williams] was seen by witnesses to have taken nitrous oxide from balloons.”
Ipswich Town are currently pushing for one of the two automatic promotion spots in the Championship. Kieron McKenna’s side are in third place – just one point adrift of Leeds at the top.
Williams made 15 appearances in the Championship for Ipswich before returning to United.
Williams was present for the court hearing and denies he was responsible for the accident. He also denied he was impaired and that he had no insurance.
The case has been sent for trial at Chester crown court with a hearing scheduled on April 19.
